Thoughts about the struggles we’ve gone through,How we feel about being back on the road, Future plans
Looking out at the vastness of the world below me while perched on a mountain brings a whole new level of peace, clarity, and perspective on life. I look down at the ant sized vehicles as they make their way down the road and realize we really are so small in this great big world. The things that seem big to us in the moment, spilling coffee all over as we rush out the door, missing out on that big promotion at work, a breakup are all in the grand scheme of things just a small portion of a much larger story.
I reflect back on the past year. Wow what a ride that was. It was an absolute emotional rollercoaster that seemed to never end. The highs were high, and the lows were so low. At times we weren’t sure how or if we would make it through, but something I learned is no matter what, life keeps going. Things usually tend to work themselves out in the long run and turn into memories or a good story. What matters at the end of the day is that you don’t let it get you down. That is so hard to do, and we definitely had our moments when we just had to feel all the feelings, but we couldn’t let it consume us. We knew we could make it through most things and that the solution was there, we just had to find it.
Now that we are finally back on the road doing what makes us all the most happy, traveling and exploring new places, all the problems we have encountered over the past year all seem like they aren’t as big anymore. It’s crazy what kind of perspective you gain when looking back at things in the past. Kind of like looking at the world from a mountain top. So if today while reading this you’re feeling down about something in your life, I want to offer to you that first, its okay to feel upset, but I hope seeing things from a different perspective can help to make things a bit easier. Even the toughest of times can be overcome. Things can feel huge in the moment, but when you take a step back, or reflect on them from the future you see that things have a way of working out for the better.
So what is on the horizon for us? Making up for lost time! We have spent most of our time stationary and while we don’t normally travel super fast, we usually like to really experience and take in a location before moving on to the next place, but there’s so much we want to do and see this summer and we miss traveling so much that we have a pretty busy travel schedule!
We will be spending a lot of time in Utah as it is one of our favorite states and we haven’t gotten to see a lot of the things we’ve wanted to see there! We want to go to Canyonlands, Moab, Arches, Escalante, then when it gets really hot, possibly make our way to Yellowstone! We find that when we aggressively plan our travels and book things way in advance, it never seems to work out so we are pretty much just going to fly by the seat of our pants and hope to make it to all these places, but if we don’t, no biggie! We will be together as a family making memories and living life to the fullest and at the end of the day, that’s all that really matters.
